CHINO HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- A small vegetation fire erupted in Chino Hills on Monday, according to the Cal Fire San Bernardino Unit.

The Sapphire Fire was first reported at 2:49 p.m. in the 4700 block of Sapphire Road, which is in Chino Hills State Park.

In an update around 9 p.m., Cal Fire San Bernardino said the acreage had been updated to 10 acres following ground-truthing efforts. Officials said the fire is 75% contained.

"Both air and ground resources conducted an aggressive fire attack this afternoon despite strong winds. Two engines will remain on scene through the evening to strengthen containment lines and mop up remaining hot spots," Cal Fire San Bernardino said in a post on social media.

At one point early in the fire, officials requested an additional three air tankers -- for a total of four -- saying the fire had the potential for 25 acres. Chino Valley Fire later said the forward progression of the fire stopped at five acres.

Additional information about what may have sparked the flames was not immediately available.
